I had been working nonstop on Ace’s new single, down to the smallest details, making sure the video was edited exactly how it needed to be. This is his real debut into mainstream music, and I wanted his vision and mine to meet in the middle, clean and intentional.
After weeks of back and forth, late nights, and fine tuning, we finally finished the single and the video. This night was his debut event. We booked out Elevate, held his single release, and premiered the video. Everyone was there. The ones genuinely rooting for him, and the ones waiting for the moment he didn’t land. Not just to see Ace fail, but to see me misstep too, especially knowing how many labels wanted to stake their claim on him.
Being in a male-dominated industry, even after all my accolades, I still have to prove myself daily to my male counterparts. In rooms where, more often than not, I’m probably the most qualified person standing in them. But that’s the game, and I know how to play it well.
In the end, the single and the video were an absolute success. Everything drops at the end of February.
